Working in collaboration with our stakeholders

Our Business Breakfasts, coffee mornings, open days and student enterprise days are a way of developing professional relationships with our stakeholders. We collaborate with our Liverpool City Regional Hub Business Enterprise Coordinator to review and develop the careers programme.

Through collaboration with universities such as Liverpool Hope university, students have taken part in initiatives such as Raising aspirations days and Employer engagement days

Students engage with community projects by volunteering weekly at the Hope Centre in St Helens.

Another well-established community partnership with Earlestown Cricket Club involves the joint development of the club grounds and a sensory garden that has proved popular in maintaining community well-being.

A wide range of employers engage with the college to provide work taster days, regular work experience placements and supported internships.

What our partners say

James Foxall - General Manager, Holiday Inn Express Wigan

At Holiday Inn Express Wigan, we have had the privilege of collaborating with Ascent Autism Specialist College over the past two years, hosting two of their students for work placements. These students have diligently contributed to various operational tasks, including cleaning the breakfast area, cleaning and replenishing the tea and coffee, preparing items for dinner service, hoovering the restaurant, and cleaning hotel bedrooms.

Engaging with students from Ascent College has yielded numerous benefits for our hotel. By embracing neurodiversity, we have enriched our workplace culture, fostering an environment that values diverse perspectives and talents. This aligns with our commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), enhancing our reputation as an inclusive employer.

Our staff’s awareness and understanding of autism have significantly deepened through this partnership. Collaborating with autistic individuals has challenged preconceived notions and highlighted the unique strengths they bring, such as attention to detail, reliability, and a strong adherence to routines. This experience has cultivated empathy, patience, and improved communication skills among our team members, contributing to a more cohesive and supportive work environment.

For the students, these placements have been instrumental in bridging the gap between academic learning and full-time employment. By engaging in real-world tasks within our hotel, they have developed practical skills, built confidence, and gained valuable insights into workplace dynamics. This hands-on experience is crucial in preparing them for future employment opportunities and fostering independence.

We are proud to support Ascent College’s mission of providing innovative and transformative services to autistic individuals, empowering them to lead happy and fulfilled lives. Our collaboration stands as a testament to the mutual benefits of such partnerships, demonstrating that inclusivity not only enriches the lives of autistic individuals but also enhances organizational culture and effectiveness.
