Ascent Autism Advice Forums
The Ascent Autism Advice Forums have been developed in-house by Head of Adult Services Julliet Doherty, Employer Engagement Officer Tara Thomas, and Student Admissions & Safeguarding Officer Natalie Molyneux.
Ascent Autism Advice Forums
The aim of the forums is to support parents and carers, providing them with the necessary tools and knowledge to enable them to support their child/ young person as they develop into adults.
For autistic individuals and their families, the transition to college and the next steps afterwards can be one of the most life-changing events, and the process can often be challenging and confusing
Each session aims to address the topics and issues that autistic individuals and their families may face as they navigate the transition into adulthood. The monthly forums cover several topics ranging from mental health and wellbeing, safeguarding, money and benefits advice, therapy support, careers, mental capacity and tribunals. Attendees have the opportunity to ask questions, discuss concerns and share ideas and experiences in a safe and supportive environment.
The sessions are open to parents and carers of current and former students, family members, parents and carers of Wargrave House School learners, community members and professionals.
Feedback from parents/ carers who have already attended:
“I can’t thank you enough for today’s forum, getting the information we need about the College was really helpful and also giving us an opportunity to hear about other important things we need to do”
“I found out more helpful information about the College. It also opened up an opportunity to find out about other very valuable information, that I wouldn’t have been aware of otherwise. I’m so grateful to hear more about what is important to have in place legally to help safeguard and manage our young person’s needs, when moving into adulthood.”
“Lovely atmosphere with everyone able to share their thoughts and concerns.”
“The information given and topics available. I like being able to access online as it makes it easier for people unable to make it in person. I like being able to chat with others to talk about shared experiences and so on.”
